About Me
My name is Deana Plascencia. I am the American Sign Language (ASL) Instructor at Golden Valley High School. I have been teaching ASL for almost a decade.
My paternal grandfather is Deaf and my maternal uncle is Deaf, thus I have been signing and been around the Deaf community my entire life.
I am a graduate from Burbank High School (BHS). I earned my Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree in American Sign Language Interpreting and I also completed an Interpreter Training Program (ITP) at College of the Canyons (COC). I then transferred to California State University, Northridge (CSUN) where I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Deaf Studies. I also earned my Masters in Arts (M.A.) degree in Secondary Education Curriculum & Instruction while attending CSUN. Additionally, I continue to work as an ASL Interpreter and Tactile Interpreter (Interpreter for the DeafBlind) when time permits.
While at Burbank High School, I had many teachers that made a positive and lasting impact on my life. After graduating, I knew I wanted to have the same impact on my future students, just as my teachers had on me while attending high school.
My hobbies include spending time with family and friends and watching movies. When possible, I also enjoy traveling. I have been to Mexico, London, Paris, Venice, Verona, Rome, Turkey, Switzerland, Munich, Amsterdam, Innsbruck, and more!
