Mrs. Juanita Rojas is looking forward to a successful third year at GV where she will continue in the Social Studies Department teaching U.S. History, Psychology, Human Geography, and Ballet Folklorico (Dance Production). Her first year at GV included a new role with the Hart District as Student Support Specialist. She worked with our GV Counselors, School Social Worker, and other staff regarding student attendance issues.
Her career in Education includes 29 years teaching History in the junior high classroom,11 within the LAUSD, and the recent 18 years in the Hart District. She has held many roles throughout her teaching career as Student Support Specialist, Department Chair, and Advisor for both Safe School Ambassadors & DFY in SCV. Her most recent Graduate Studies have better prepared her to be more trauma-informed. She believes that obtaining this new knowledge with an emphasis on Trauma & Resilience in Educational Settings has helped her better understand how trauma and stress affect student behavior and learning.
Her education includes her earning a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies at CSUN, Teaching Credential & M.A. in Education at Pepperdine University, and more recently an M.A. in Education and Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis on Trauma & Resilience in Educational Settings with the University of Concordia, Nebraska.
Her goals are not only to make her classroom a welcoming and safe place for learning but also to build strong relational connections with her students and their families.
