October 25th is national dwarfism awareness day. Come to school on Friday wearing green to show your support.

International Dwarfism Awareness Day is celebrated on October 25th each year. The day is a time to recognize people with dwarfism and to raise awareness of the challenges they face.
The day was chosen to honor the birthday of Billy Barty, an American actor with dwarfism who founded Little People of America in 1957. Little People of America is a nonprofit organization that supports people with dwarfism and their families.
Some goals of Dwarfism Awareness Day include:
  • Challenging barriers to independence and self-determination
  • Correcting stereotypes
  • Educating people about dwarfism and the language used to describe people of short stature
  • Removing preconceptions about people with dwarfism
  • Creating more support for people with dwarfism
Dwarfism is a medical condition or genetic disorder that causes short stature, usually defined as an adult height of less than 4 ft 10 in (147 cm). Most people with dwarfism can live normal lives and have normal life expectancies. However, some people with dwarfism may face physical or social barriers.
